Marriage agency
Term “marriage agency” used by Russians or Ukrainians for the name of the local introduction service in each city. In large cities it could be more than one marriage agency.
Westerners don’t usually use such term, because it is too obvious and intends that users of this service hope not only to date, but also to marry a foreigner. Western companies usually call this service as
“dating service” or “introduction service”, but perform the same thing.
Russian term is more appropriate, because it doesn’t encourage misunderstanding as to what it is all about.
Marriage agency usually can be situated in a specific city or town in the CIS countries and represents profiles of women who signed up for the service of this agency locally. Marriage agency is also locally owned and they can have their own website.
Western companies usually work only through the internet. Majority of western agencies are affiliated with a couple of the local marriage agencies located in big cities of the CIS countries. That’s why on their websites user can see the promotion of some cities.
Marriage agency’ system of work is quite simple. Local marriage agencies provide the profiles of women and Western agencies connect them with men. Ukrainian or Russian marriage agency can work by itself without any mediators.
Local marriage agency usually provides paid services. It makes money from giving to its user names and addresses of the women, translation services, email forwarding services, and other services such as delivering gifts for local women. Marriage agencies also make money by providing tours for men who visit the city or town in order to see their “ideal ladies”.
Sometimes there are breakups of these affiliations, due to misunderstandings or outright contract violations. I have been in the middle of several of these disagreements.
